I begin to understand the "conservative" mind better

It all makes sense now!

It turns out that Obese People Have 'Severe Brain Degeneration'

"A new study finds obese people have 8 percent less brain tissue than normal-weight individuals. Their brains look 16 years older than the brains of lean individuals, researchers said today."

It also turns out that the "fattest" States tend to vote Republican.

The Shrub carried 19 of the 20 most obese States when he was elected. So do the math, MacDonald's has given us MacPolitics.

a little food for thought

Having had to dodge morons driving while using hand held cell phones, either talking or texting, too many times I think that this is a great video.

Though it seems to have upset some people.

Warning, this is somewhat graphic, which is the point.

Personally, I'm grateful to the people who made it and hope it gets a wide viewing.

I have a conspiracy theory for you

And I say this as a strong supporter of the second amendment.

I am convinced that the morons who are showing up at town hall meetings with pistols and rifles are not in fact doing so to exercise their second amendment rights. They are, I believe, anti-gun nuts doing everything in their power to frighten average Americans into supporting strong bans on the right to own and bear arms in the USA.

It is the only answer that makes any sense. Only an idiot would show up at a presidential speech with an assault rifle and think that any clear thinking American would approve of his actions.

So we either have individuals with double digit IQ's strutting about at town hall meetings with their 44 magnum penis replacements, thinking that they are going to intimidate the American people into doing what they want through thereat of force, ( these people would most likely be Maoists, being that it was Chairman Mao who observed "all politics emerge from the barrel of a gun") or you have a concerted effort by the anti-gun forces to portray gun oweners as dangerously insane. The sad thing is that it seems to be working. I have heard much talk from moderate friends about stronger weapons bans after seeing loaded guns at political rallies. These are people who would not have supported such six months ago.

You do the math.

Here's some evidence for my premise

Zucchini murder at the Moore's

We all went out this weekend to hang around with Mariah, Randy, Margie and Noah out on their farm.

As it happened, they were invaded by mutant zucchini, the rest is history. Here is Cole delivering 30 cuts to an offending vegetable.

After spending the better part of the afternoon fighting off man eating squash we dined on some of the best steaks I have had in years. Life is good (unless you are a squash)

Darcy Burner's address to the Net Roots

Some of the most thoughtful talk I have heard in quite a while.

Here's a little truth about health care for you.

I just ran across this at Crooks and Liars.

The so called Conservatives have turned America into a third world country while we were distracted by their rhetoric.

From where I'm sitting it is pretty obvious who the new "Brown Shirts" are.

Food for thought

Here is President Obama's address to the nation this week on health care.

As you can see, it is well thought out, reasonable and rational. It addresses both real concerns and the lies of the crazies.

And here Lawrence O'Donnell s Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas) and exposes him for the lying sack of horse dung that he is.

Don't be fooled! This isn't a debate about so called "socialism" it is a debate about whether the citizens of the US continue to be the hosts to a bunch of parasites. We pay more for health care here than anywhere else in the world, but there are about 38 other countries who pay less than we do and get BETTER CARE!

Take a look at the interview, then take a look at where this scumbag gets his money.

It's time that we stop allowing the people who we put in office to represent US to be bought by big business.

Some truth on health care for a change

Lately the health care debate (or shouting match as is more accurate) has been dominated by corporate thugs and the crazies that they foster.

People forget that big business has always used hired muscle to keep people in line and to protect their profits. That's how Pinkerton's got its start. That was the business response to unions in the 19th and 20th centuries, and it looks like we are up for the same old thing with health care in the 21st century.

At least Obama is speaking up now. He needs to be talking this up daily to get past the right wing noise machine.

(Hat tip to Crooks and Liars for the video)

Thought of the day

Terence McKenna gives us his unique perspective on life.

I had the pleasure of hanging around with Terence from time to time back when he lived in Sonoma. His reputation as a psychonaut was well deserved, but it gave him, I think, a view of humanity that is quite valuable.

ummm... Excuse me Captain.....

But I think we need an immediate course correction!

I was out biking around town today. It was a beautiful day, the temperature was about 75 f, the sun was out, there were a lot of people on the street. about one out of every three people I saw today was overweight, about one in seven was obese. It was downright scary to see what we are becoming

This is what Humans are meant to be...

and this....
(notice the ongoing laughter?)

But this is what we are becoming

It's kind of sad really.

I ran across a book a little while ago which I found to be to the point on this subject. It's called "The End of Overeating" by David A. Kessler, MD. If you have ever wondered how we have become the fattest nation on earth (we even make the Saudis look thin) this is the place to start.

It even has some constructive suggestions on what to do about the problem.

It is worrisome that so many of us have become disconnected from our bodies. Personally I find it the obesity epidemic to be scarier than global warming.

The Green Man

The Stick Fighter's Speed Bag

This device is usually called a "de cuerdas" (cuerda means string or cord in Spanish).

Usually you have two sticks tied in the middle with a light rope and anchored to the ground.

I added a face and heart target to this one just for fun. When I hang these I do so with the weight at the bottom barly touching the ground so that the device will move and wobble around as it is struck.

I also slant the lower stick so that it can come at you either above or below the knee.

When you get one of these set up you can go at it with various length sticks or training knives (don't use live blades, you go through too much rope that way) The fun part is that it will dance around and try to hit you back.

I call this training tool "the green man" because of the face target and because I put it together at the beginning of summer.

When you are short a sparring partner this is the next best thing for working on your speed and responsiveness.
