"Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness"

It makes you kinda wonder why the Right Wing Lie Machine even bothers to give lip service to its supposed "Christian Values".

The Right Wing so called Christians make a big deal of the "Ten Commandments", but God forbid that they should ever be held to the standards they claim to espouse.

As far as the Ten Commandments go, I have to allow as I have never been all that impressed with them as a guide for living, but be that as it may, it seems to me that if a group of people spend huge amounts of time and money trying to get them posted in court houses and other public places, that these people should at least make a minimal effort to live up to them.

But Alas, this is not the case. The one thing that we know about Republican operatives, they lie. They lie with full knowledge of what they are doing and with no regard for the values they pretend to uphold.

We saw that with the attacks run against John McCain when he ran against Bush, we saw it with the lies about Kerry's military record, and we see it now with the smear champaign against Obama.

I have lost count of the number of times I have received the "Obama is a Muslim" latter by email. You know the one, it even invites you to go to snopes.com to verify its truth. Of course if anyone does go there they would discover that the email is a lie, which says something quite unfortunate about people who uncritically buy into these slanders.

For anyone who is interested you can see what Snopes actually says about the various Obama smears here. You can also see what the Right Wing Lie machine says about the Clintons as well.

This is one of those times where, if you claim to be a Christian (or a member of any of the Abrahamic religions) You really have to ask yourself "why do you support people who fail to follow the Ten Commandments?" It's pretty clear, "Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness".

When people lie to get someone elected to political office, I would have to suspect that those people are not on the side of Christ.

So dear reader, here is a challenge. Next time you get one of those lying emails about any of the candidates, do a little fact checking, then ask the person who sent it to you why he is Bearing False Witness against that candidate.

If people claim to follow the rules of a particular religion, they should not be quite so hypocritical.

I love the part about asking them why they're bearing False Witness against a candidate.

That's not exactly something that Jesus would do.

This is exactly why, as a Christian, I do not support these people. In fact, I end up alienating myself quite frequently from other Christians when the Right Wing comes up in conversation.

I tend to simply ask why people bother sending me such things in the first place. Unlike many people in this world I do not need to agree with them or their viewpoints to respect or get along with them.

The problem w/ the whole right-wing/left-wing bit is that the two major parties actively work to polarize moderates. They speak of key issues that are every bit an emotional hot button, but really in the grand scheme of things have very little to do with what most people worry about every day... You know, feeding themselves, clothing themselves, staying employed, and simply keeping themselves above water.

My voting process this year is a simple one. I don't like the candidates we have before us. Period. But this year I'm voting anybody but Bush or Clinton.

We've had 20 years of them, and this country is a scarier place because of it.

Nothing quite like both parties actively manipulating the truth to suit their needs. It isn't just republicans who do this.

Yes, both parties do it. The republicans have just been a lot better at it of late.
